Is the environmental burden of food produced globally for European citizens distributed equitably?
The following section that describes the performance metric Environmental Justice that was embedded in Deliverable 6.3.
Performance metric 4: Environmental justice
A fourth performance metric for the equity goal wants to capture the notion that the EU food system’s environmental negative outcomes have an impact globally on natural resources, for example via GHG emissions from agriculture. Thus the team formulated a performance metric called ‘Environmental Justice’, which focusses partly on ecosystem services, ecosystem health, and fair use of resources. These metrics would largly overlap with more recent work on equity by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
